NRC Volunteers at HPVEC's Litter Pick-Up Along Route 9
Dervla Connaughton - HPVEC Team
Working with North Road Communications allows its members to not only gain real work experience as a full-time student, but it also provides opportunities to give back to our community! As all of our clients are non-profits located in the Hudson Valley, all the work we do goes towards assisting any communications needs for their organization. This year I have had the pleasure of working with our client Hyde Park Visual Environment Committee, a non-profit organization that works to preserve the community’s natural and historical resources while maintaining and planting local gardens.
This past Saturday our team here at North Road Communications worked with Hyde Park Visual Environment Committee to execute a Litter Pick-Up along Route 9. As one of the many roadside litter pick-ups they’ve hosted in the past few years, this event went off without a hitch! Assisted by HPVEC’s volunteers alongside Marist College’s Women’s Soccer team, we spent our morning trailing Route 9 collecting any trash we came across. Though it was a slightly breezy and early morning for our volunteers, we were lucky enough to receive beautiful weather as we made our way up Route 9. By the end we had filled several trash bags and we are proud to say that Route 9 has never looked better.
Hyde Park Visual Environment Committee works to study the esthetics of their town, whether it be visual, environmental, historical, or cultural, and identifies any issues where they can find and promote solutions. Their work is supported through yearly membership dues, fundraising events and donations. The committee began in 1970 with hopes of increasing residential involvement in the local planning process. A couple of years later Hyde Park Visual Environment Committee was approved by the NYS Department of State as a public educator, so they could further publicize their mission and attract more volunteers across the community. Their work has mainly focused on stonewall restoration, architectural and historic preservation, beautification, commercial and suburban development.
North Road Communications is honored to work such a long-standing organization that makes incredible strides to better our environment. We are looking forward to the Beautification Awards ceremony at the end of this month honoring the work Hyde Park Visual Environment Committee volunteers has done in this past year, and hope to develop further projects within the community.
